Costume Craze Celebrates Christmas

by Matthew on Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009

Snowman

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

Costume Craze celebrated Christmas with a fun employee party yesterday. We decorated our snowman with a fine Christmas hat! Then we played video games, ate great food and had a lot of fun.

The desserts were out of this world! I think I must have gained 10 pounds, but it was worth it.

After we ate, we had a fun drawing for gift certicates. Everyone picked a number out of a hat, and we all won great prizes.

Special thanks to the Maloneys for being so generous. They really went out of their way to wish us a Merry Christmas and show their appreciation for a job well done. Costume Craze is such a great place to work!

It’s hard to believe 2009 is almost over. We’ve had a great year, and we’re looking forward to 2010. So many new and exciting costumes are on the horizon!

We hope you all find joy and gratitude on this wonderful holiday – and may Santa bring you lots of presents!

Merry Christmas!

Utah Senator Composes Hanukkah Song

by Matthew on Friday, December 11th, 2009

Eight Days of Hanukkah Music Video (via USA Today)

Just in time for Hanukkah, which begins tomorrow evening, comes a wonderful song composed by Utah Senator Orrin Hatch. Entitled Eight Days of Hanukkah, the song is a collaboration between Hatch and Jeffrey Goldberg.

Hatch, who is a Mormon, is no stranger to songwriting and is a popular lyricist in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

In Tablet, a magazine on Jewish life, Jeffrey Goldberg wrote that he met with Hatch 10 years ago when he worked for the New York Times Magazine. The two were listening to some of Hatch’s Christmas music, when Goldberg asked about a Hanukkah song.

Goldberg says Hatch got back in touch with him nine years later and a new Hanukkah song was born.

This is so cool! As some of you may know, Costume Craze is located in Utah, and it’s great to see our respected state senator composing such a wonderful song.

To all of our Jewish friends, we wish you a very Happy Hanukkah! May your celebrations be filled with joy and thankfulness!Happy Hanukkah!

Let’s be happy, let us cheer,
Hanukkah again is here.
All the lights are shining bright,
Isn’t it a lovely sight?

You know these lights remind us
Of the time long, long ago,
When God caused one,
tiny light,
for eight long days to shine so bright.

– Malvine P. Hoenig

Happy Hanukkah!

Costume Craze on Local TV News!

by Matthew on Tuesday, October 20th, 2009

Costume Craze was recently on our local TV news! Kate Maloney and her crew appeared on stations KUTV and KJZZ to showcase our Halloween costumes.

They appeared live on the morning news, and again in the afternoon. Live television can be a bit intimidating, but they did great! The video clip above shows the afternoon fashion show.

Are you ready for Halloween? It’s only 11 days away!

Dress Up Your Pumpkin with Costume Accessories

by Sherene on Monday, October 19th, 2009

What’s Halloween without a jack-o-lantern or two? I tell ya, though, the jack-o-lanterns of my childhood aren’t quite so fancy as what you find these days. Take a look at some of the creative pumpkin carving from Martha Stuart’s site:

Pretty cool, huh? Keep in mind, though, that you don’t always have to carve a pumpkin to make a fantastic looking jack-o-lantern. Instead of scooping out messy pumpkin guts, pull out your paint, markers, craft foam and costume accessories to dress up your pumpkin!

tophatpumpkin

Turn your jack-o-lantern into piratical perfection (see picture at top) with a pirate hat and eye patch or paint your pumpkin green, use a black marker to draw a face, attach a green foam nose and top it with a witch’s hat.

With a little creativity, some craft supplies and costume accessories, your jack o’ lanterns will go from pumpkin bore to haut couture!

Of course, if you’d prefer to be a pumpkin rather than carve one, skip the pumpkin patch altogether and check out our fun pumpkin costumes and accessories!
