[Warning] If These Costumes Don’t Give You Nightmares Nothing Will

by Matthew on Wednesday, September 21st, 2016

It’s one thing to wear a scary costume for Halloween.

Most of us enjoy the spooky atmosphere of this holiday, but there are some costumes that take it to another level.

Before you go any further, you should prepare yourself for some images that may never leave your mind. If you thought your costume was scary, then you obviously haven’t laid eyes on the horrifying images below.

Let’s take a journey down nightmare lane — and see how many of us come out on the other side…

1) Peter Rottentail

There is something about evil bunnies that is just terrifying. Think Frank the Rabbit from Donny Darko, or Monty Python’s Killer Rabbit of Caerbannog.

If you want to send the masses screaming in the other direction this Halloween, going as Peter Rottentail is a safe bet.

2) The Other Mother

Why do children’s movies often have the most disturbing characters?

If you’ve seen the animated film, Coraline, then you should be familiar with “the Other Mother,” — And you have probably racked up a hefty therapy bill.

Sometimes it’s the subtle sinister qualities of a costume that make it remarkable.

3) Slender Man

Did anyone else have to silence the scream in their heart after laying eyes on this creation?

There is something about the abnormally long limbs and pasty, featureless face that brings nightmares to life. If you happen to glimpse him standing among the trees or outside your bedroom window your time on this earth may be limited.

4) “Back in MY Day…”

We’ve all heard the stories.

Walking uphill BOTH ways, making trips to the library to do research, and oh yeah, Halloween costumes that were actually terrifying.

It’s rare that we see anything this scary nowadays, and the picture above doesn’t even depict the worst of it. That’s right, some of the things we saw were too scary for our blog.

5) Noseybonk

Scariest Costume Ever

Why?!

This chilling character is supposedly a product of an “educational program.” What he was supposed to teach us is irrelevant, because who could remember anything after looking into that face? I’m having enough trouble remembering my name…

If you want to keep this nightmare alive, then dressing up in a Noseybonk costume is the way to go.

6) Creepy Puffy Baby

I don’t think I could ever look at a coworker the same way after seeing them flailing around in this costume.

There is just something utterly disturbing about the baby mask paired with the puffy body suit – and what is the purpose of the tie? If you want to get back at your boss for eating the Twinkies you left in the break room, this is definitely one way to do it.

7) Pretty Much Any Clown Costume

Seriously.

Pick any clown costume.

The big birthing hips on the delightful one above made it a winner in my book. But there is really no limit to the blood-freezing clown costumes out there.

Are there any other shudder-worthy costumes you think we should add to the list?

Halloween Costumes: 11 Tips to Help You Spend Less and Look Better

by Matthew on Tuesday, September 6th, 2016

Without the costumes, all the Halloween parties, trick-or-treating and gorging on candy corn just wouldn’t be the same.

Some people cut down on costume costs by going the DIY route, but that can be a time suck– especially when the missing button on your favorite shirt has been neglected for months.

So, the question is, how do we get the costumes we want for a price that doesn’t scare our wallets? This list brings you 11 different ways to get your Halloween costumes for a fraction of the cost.

Enjoy!

1) Time Your Shopping

Costume Rack

If you’re interested in wearing a store-bought costume this year, then you may want to time your purchase for the best deal.

This usually involves shopping well in advance of Halloween or snatching up last-minute deals. The only downside to this strategy is that you may not be able to find the specific costume that you had in mind since inventory will be scarce.

If you are buying your costume online, just make sure that the item will be shipped in time for the big day!

2) Pool Resources

Halloween Bear

Meet up with your friends and family and have everyone bring all the accessories and costume pieces that they own. Not only will this serve as inspiration for costume ideas, it will also give you the opportunity to exchange different items and save on parts that you would have had to buy new.

3) Be Flexible

costume flexibility

If you have your heart set on dressing up as the White Queen this Halloween – we get it.

But you should know that the more flexible you are with your costume choice, the easier it will be to shave off a few extra dollars.

This doesn’t mean that you can’t go with the specific character you had in mind, but you don’t have to buy the first one that suits your fancy. Shop around for the best deals and get creative with the accessories to find a costume that fits your budget.

4) Sell Last Year’s Costume

Old West Costumes

Even if you don’t want to wear your old costume again this year – someone else might.

By selling last year’s costume on sites like eBay, or to a secondhand store, you can put that money toward buying a new costume. Just keep in mind that you will have the best luck selling these items in September or early October. Any later than that and you may not have any takers.

5) Buy One Great Item

Masks for Halloween

Rather than spreading yourself thin by buying an assortment of pieces for your costume, try focusing on one amazing item to use as your foundation.

This will often reduce the total cost of your costume and also look better than the collection of cheaper items. You can also take advantage of makeup and items around your house to enhance your look.

6) After Halloween

Halloween is Over

If you really want to get the best deals, then shopping right after Halloween is a killer way to slash those costs.

By shopping a year early, you will gain access to deeply discounted costumes that you can save for next Halloween. The trick here is to make sure that you don’t get a costume you will lose interest in or a size that will no longer fit you or your growing children 12 months from now.

If you can’t bring yourself to commit to an entire costume, you can still take advantage of discounted accessories that you can use in the future.

7) Wait for the Right Deal

Creative Costume

Some stores, like Costume Craze, offer deals on costumes throughout the year. Keep an eye out for daily deals, weekly deals and seasonal specials to get the costume you want for a great price.

If you take the right approach, you’ll never have to pay full price for a costume again.

8) Shop Online

Buy Costumes Online

In addition to avoiding crowded stores and having access to a wider selection of inventory, shopping online regularly offers the benefit of steep discounts.

If you are worried about getting the right size, you can try on the specific costume you are interested in at a store first and then purchase it online.

9) Choose the basic costume

Halloween Makeup

Many popular costumes come in two varieties, the basic version and the deluxe or premium version.

If you’re trying to save money, the basic costumes will be more affordable. There is also more room to personalize this type of costume with accessories and the like.

10) Buy Something You’ll Wear Again

masquerade mask

Sometimes savings don’t involve the lowest price – they offer the highest value.

If you opt for a high-quality costume, it can last for several years and will give you the chance to squeeze the full value out of your purchase. Accessories like wigs, shoes, and bags can also be used to make your costume pop.

11) Take Advantage of Makeup and Accessories

Halloween Accessories

The details of your costume are often the most important part.

Let’s say that you are looking for a Kid’s Ghostbusters Costume. If you only purchased a jumpsuit and failed to add an inflatable backpack to the mix, your child may never forgive you.

Like seriously, we’re talking years of “remember that one Halloween…?”

This year, you can spend less and look better for the upcoming festivities.

With the right makeup, accessories, and stealthy shopping tricks you can cut down on the total cost of your costume and create a unique look that stuns the crowds.

Have You Made These 7 Embarrassing Costume Mistakes?

by Matthew on Friday, August 19th, 2016

Some of our fails have been more legendary than others — but we’ve all done it.

Unless you’re a costume-wearing savant, you’re going to run into mistakes here and there.

But this doesn’t mean you need to make them all yourself.

Learn about potential errors — before you fall into the same trap — and spend more time enjoying the holiday festivities instead.

This list details seven common blunders that you can now avoid. And we won’t judge you if you laugh at the victims of these embarrassing costume mistakes.

1. Forgetting that You’re Human

You may not be dressing up as a human this year, but that doesn’t eliminate your human needs.

Breathing is not optional, people.

If you can’t see, hear, consume water or use the bathroom you’re going to run into issues.

And they won’t be pleasant…

Just check out this poor teenager that had to be rescued by the fire department in order to be freed from a clingy Barney costume.

stuck in barney costume

Don’t be that person.

And if you can’t get your costume off without help then plan on sporting a stadium buddy for the evening.

2. Falling Prey to The Generic Costume

How many people are literally wearing the same costume as you?

This may or may not be embarrassing depending on your personality, but it’s still sad. With all the options to choose from, there is no reason that you shouldn’t be able to stand out when you put on your costume.

Even if you go for one of the classic costumes like a pirate, nurse, or firefighter, you can still create a unique look with accessories and makeup.

Unless you are dressing up for a synchronized performance, don’t be afraid to get crazy with your costume :)

3. Being Glued to Your Other Half

Some of the best costumes are couple’s costumes, but you don’t want to look ridiculous if you decide to stray from their side for a few minutes.

Take this for example:

Bad Couples Costume

Source: tv guide

Not only is it HORRIFYING, this costume is also dependent on having your partner standing right next to you if you want a chance at being recognized.

Although, in this particular instance, they probably wanted it that way…*shudder*

4. The Dreaded Question Mark

Speaking of being recognizable, will people actually know what you dressed up as this year?

If you’re selecting your costume with a specific audience in mind, this may not be an issue for you, but if you’re going for a general appeal then you may want to think twice.

5. Getting Stuck in Your Imagination

This is the year that you finally perfect that costume.

Everything is exactly as it should be, and you look freaking amazing.

There’s just one problem.

costume with poor functionality

You can’t move your arms, turn your head or squeeze through a doorway.

Your fabulous costume will soon become your final resting place if you can’t figure out how to claw your way out of it.

6. My Skin!!!

Theatrical style makeup can take your costume from mediocre to epic.

If it’s done right.

Keep in mind, that no matter how good your makeup looks, you still have to take care of the skin underneath it.

Bad Costume Makeup

Source: Bustle

Take the necessary precautions with your makeup to minimize damage to your skin, eyes and anything else that’s getting slathered in product.

7. Failing to take Advantage of Accessories

Sometimes, it’s the small details that make the costume.

Is Santa Claus really Santa without the fluffy white beard?

Santa without a beard

Are you really doing the Mad Hatter justice without a top hat?

And Catwoman just isn’t the same without her whip…
